Various Categories Within the World of Animation

ANIMATORS

  • SANDRA CHANG - The art and imagination of Sandra Chang expresses a mixture of powerful sexuality, social comment, a touch of sarcasm, and at the very least, a touch of her own femininity - as seen through her most popular characters - Dagny and Hendrix
  • PETER CHUNG - Seoul-based Korean animator, Peter Chung, whose credits include "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," "Rugrats," "Aeon Flux" and commercials for Nike Air, Diet Pepsi and AT&T, wrote and directed the segment entitled, "Matriculated."
  • GORO MIYAZAKI - The son of Hayao Miyasaki studied forestry at Shinshu University and started a career in landscape design. In 1998 he took on responsibility for the design of the Ghibli Museum, a theme park the studio was building in a rare splash of green space in a Tokyo suburb and became the museum's managing director in 2001. After his father couldn't do "Earthsea" book series, Ghibli's powerful producer Toshio Suzuki handed the project to Goro, who had started to hang around animation study groups and present ideas of his own.
  • HAYAO MIYAZAKI - often reviewed, widely acclaim and admired animator from Japan starting with "Princess Mononoke," (1997) to Howl's Moving Castle (2005).
  • RUBEN AQUINO - The Okinawa-born artist incorporates his formal training in architecture to have a unique perspective on animation to rank among the top animators and draftsmen working today. He has an exceptional balance of high quality, superbly acted animation and astounding speed made him capable of supervising two characters simultaneously in his 20+ years at Disney.
  • ISAO TAKAHATA - longtime collaborator of Hayao Miyazaki and co-founder of Studio Ghibli. Although his films contain mature subject material that can be construed as offensive, Takahata speaks a kind of cinematic language that is at once compelling to an 8-year-old and an 80-year old.
